What a loaded question.
This.
I would say that there are a lot of people trying to make progress or show progress in anyway that can, and without knowledge and/or funding that effort can manifest in ways that aren't as green as they seem or in ways that are presented with only the best foot forward--and there's some gray areas there that may or may not fall into the category of green washing. I think it's important to try and recognize where effort is being made and a company just hasnt really reached the mark yet before we call them out for green washing. Attempts should be celebrated-after all so much of the new trends in sustainability have no one size fits all solution and everyone from the top down is trying to figure out what it looks like for them. That being said companies directly participating in green washing antics should be called out. Accountability is important.
Being called out may not be a problem provided the recipient takes it as feedback and part of their educational experience. That being said implies that people become less prone to being offended by their own reactions to others and find that it is a means to grow and connect with others instead.
