CSG works across JPMC to look at critical initiatives which would suggest a firm wide impact. We would be engaged for anything like evaluating projects, developing businesses (think international entry or branch expansion in NA), market competitor intelligence, even down to incorporating opex techniques to reduce inefficiencies and process waste. I typically put in 50 hours a week (sometimes less sometimes more, no matter where you go it’s never really a 40 hour week but definitely not consulting hours)
For technical knowledge I have about 7 months of Summer Analyst IB experience on top of a background in market intelligence which was my interest/specialty at Accenture Strategy. And I fully acknowledged that a VP should have 5-7 years experience but that we accelerated faster than our MC counterparts. Depending on the VP role is where you can play with the needle on technical expertise. Id say my role requires more relationship management and a conceptual thinker type vs. say a Cloud First or like a Technical PMO background.
I graduated from a No name school in the northeast, it has been hell to even land a job at Accenture but after having 4.5 years of experience, my school background did not even matter. Think do I want the MBA guy with irrelevant experience for the role vs. the undergrad non target school with the blended IB/Competitor Analysis background? But don’t get me wrong I’d probably be passed for if someone had the latter w an MBA. But I’m humbled and thankful for the right opportunity at the right time. Great questions!
I was a C2 level at Accenture (4.5 years out of Uni) landed a VP CSG at JPM 155k base 40k sign and target 30% EOY bonus with cash incentives. I’m turning 28 this year. Industry is the way to go after Manager level at Accenture which might translate to a lower level at your firm (Know it’s SC level at D). Best of luck on your journey! OW is an amazing brand name and I’m sure any industry role would be more than happy to bring you in at a super generous offer package. 🤟
Are u a manager in consulting
And are you interviewing front or back offucs
Engagement manager, and newly formed strategy team
Loaded total is anywhere from 240-320 (base/cash incentive/RSU/profit sharing/cash bonus(11-17k)/discretionary adjustment). VP age range is anywhere from late 20s to late/early 50s. Happy to provide any more details
A1 - Approximately what do you think your yearly raises will average out to be? Is the work interesting. Can’t imagine going to the same office every day mon.-fri.
Another VP has a 12.8k base raise, but the money is with the bonuses. In terms of work it depends on where you land, there are IC (internal consulting) roles where you have “clients” which are just different divisions in the company. You’re still on your normal schedule though, sometimes you also have international calls if you’re dealing with different branches (e.g ASEAN ones). Personally like the move overall but I do miss being on a plane and being able to flex on company dime, on top of the refreshful new company clients
A1 - Some questions for you:
1) What is type of work does CSG do?
2) How many hours do you put in on average per week? (I.e. 40-45 vs 50-60?)
3) How much technical knowledge is required to be successful at the VP level?
4) What is your pedigree? (I.e top MBA?)
Director / VP role will typically ask for more than 5 years of experience. That said, why not go for it. Salary will depend on location and role. In nyc, a middle office, back office VP level role will pay around 160-185 with bonuses at around 10% give it or take a few points.
I’d expect more than 10% bonus for mid-back office. I got $10k bonus on $85k salary as an associate before b school.
D1 - was that front office?
No back back office, KYC
Would’ve been $15k bonus if I worked the full year too
Worked at JPM though, some banks (e.g. Citi) pay like crap
I also like to underpin some detail to M1 on a 10% bonus, for back office VPs they’re also ranging 130-160 for a base based on the YoE, it’s similar to how consulting firms pay determine a salary range for delivery roles vs consulting vs strategy branded lines of business. If it was standardized across all types of VP then it wouldn’t necessarily attract the motivated individuals, however VPs are able to switch into roles internally given background/demand and if the ED across the different entities say so. (E.g if you want to go to Treasury from say CS and the Treasury ED supports it then you can do so, given sufficient time to develop a successor and transition plan
Agreed - depends on which bank. Also typically the domestic banks will pay higher pbb’s then international banks.
A1 appreciate the write up great and interesting prospects/job and congrats.
