Is it common nowadays for firms/ companies to ghost candidates after the final round of interviews? More than once I’ve made it through several rounds and felt I had a good conversation with the hiring managers/ partners, only to suddenly get ghosted in the end. It takes 30 seconds to send a rejection email. I’ve reached out multiple times and once got a semi-AI-sounding rejection (one month after I reached out…), and in another case, I never heard back. What gives?? It’s so unprofessional.

Thanks for the comments! In a sad way, I’m glad to know it’s not just me somehow… sighs. I had such high hopes too. Hope we all land our dream job soon (to the extent you are still looking)!

It seems like it is becoming more and more common. I have had it happen three times now and it is beyond frustrating. I am sorry to hear that it happened to you as well.

It is. The same way candidates just ghost employers nowadays. It's a two way street.

Any advice on how to deal with a partner/boss who is shifting all responsibility to me with zero guidance, no mentoring, and an unwillingness to discuss the issues? (Small firm, only associate under this partner and have been working at the firm for 2 years). There are an increasing number of passive aggressive comments from the partner who expects to be completely hands off once the case lands on my desk. Wants me to figure it all out despite cases being from different areas of law.

Second year associate here who recently switched from litigation to corporate law. I am absolutely swamped while simultaneously having no idea what I’m doing ever and I’m feeling so burnt out. The partners are pretty great and feedback is constructive which I’m grateful for, but I’m so desperate for a compliment I’ve been saving any scrap of positivity in a folder 😭 it’s December 22 and I haven’t done my Christmas shopping because I don’t feel capable of thinking about it. I need a hug.

Have a call on Friday with the CEO of an environmental entrepreneurship non-profit. It could lead to a professional opportunity and maybe even billable work I can refer to my firm down the line. Transactional associate. Lateraled 6 months ago and one of the biggest pain points has been my new firm’s inclination to “hop on a call”, which of course requires every single stakeholder to join. The end result being every call has 25 people on it and nothing actually gets done because no one wants to ask a question that could come off as silly. It’s destroying my ability to get anything done during the day. It’s a complete performance and it drives me nuts.
