Is it common practice to reach out directly to a partner you’ve worked across from (on deals) at another BigLaw firm after applying to an open lateral role there?

I’ve got a real working relationship, not a cold contact. Curious how people view this and whether it’s led to interviews or referrals in your experience.

This is regarding Visa Appointment for Germany - in VFS.
My visa expiry is June 2023 , whereas my Appointment to consulate is July 2022. I am going to renew my visa now but for my appointment I had given my current passport number and for appointment I need to carry the renewed passport(Which will have new Passport Number) , please help if this will be an issue?? Will I be asked to book a new appointment with renewed Visa and passport number ?? anyone faced similar situation??

Considering lateraling to a bigger firm that pays closer to market or market. I really like my current firm and coworkers and WLB, but I am being underpaid.
