It's nice to be friendly at work, but coworkers are not friends. I was good friends with another EA at my company. We'd go out for lunand drinks. Then one day her boss became my boss' boss and the relationship changed. She thought she was my boss and thought she could order me around and delegating tasks to me that she didn't want to do. I pushed back, naturally. Needless to say she stopped all communication. I left the job eventually and we never saw or spoke to each other again.

I was friends with a lot of people at my last job. We were a good crew, we even did girls trips in the summer to a lake and rented a house together. It was also a non-profit, so it was kind of one of those we're all in the trenches together situations. Where I'm at now, I'm very friendly with people I work with but I don't really do things outside of the office with them. My boss, the office manager, often invites me to her home which I politely decline almost every single time. I've only gone once for a pool party when a lot of other work people were going. When I'm outside of work, I just kind of want to relax and often when you're with colleagues it turns into work talk and I'm not really interested in that. If it's the weekend I don't want to be thinking about anything work related. Instead, I go out with my coworkers from my previous job.
Being friendly is fine. I typically don’t socialize with my coworkers on the weekends or after hours. But I will join them for lunch a few times a week. It’s all about finding a balance you’re comfortable with.
I prefer keeping my personal and professional life separate. When I was younger I use to blur the lines ( and lived to regret it)
Coworkers should be neither friends nor adversariesl. They are just that: coworkers. Remain cordial but professional at all time. Keep the private life and work life separate. Getting too personal can come back and blow up in your face, and make your coworkers not trust you and vice versa.
