Is it fine to not work or not reply to emails while you're on PTO especially when you have cover? I feel that some folks try to test boundaries and try to see if you can give concessions.

I check my email for 10 minutes in the morning and night. I forward things along and clear out the noise.

Day before I’m back I might spend an hour or two going through everything.

I only do if I’m truly needed (i.e. it really is only a question I can answer, which is very rare) or late at night / early am and I typically respond with something akin to “I’m OOO until —-. Happy to put you in touch with ——- (name of coverage) or handle when I return on ——.”

like

@Associate 2 - I always have an OOO auto reply on. Some people will still email and that will be my response ^^ doubles down on boundaries rather than blatantly ignoring the email

Yes it’s fine. I never respond unless (1) it’s a question only I can answer (very rare) or (2) it’s like the first 6-8 hours when I’m in transit and someone may not be in touch with my coverage yet.

like

Also yeah if you reply they’ll keep bugging you. If you don’t reply they’ll figure it out. So continuously responding is setting yourself up to be abused.

Yes. Check with a trusted senior on etiquette around how often they check and respond to their emails during PTO.

I would put up an OOO saying I had limited internet access, and provide the number of my assistant to call in emergencies. No one ever called.

I would check emails when I could.

The only partners who abused PTO boundaries were the ones who didn’t like me anyway—it was a sign of their low view of my time and value. I learned to mute them by directing them to others to bother.

Turns out job wasn’t as advertised. Mutual parting of ways 3/22. Due diligence is critical.
Now interviewing a LOT. Some temp work, I still have “it”. I relate to all gens. Willing to mentor AND learn from all. Tech savvy, CTE from day one. Leads?

Beginning to consider going in house (4th, corp) - I really haven’t thought about what I want, partly because I’m not sure what’s out there/attainable. Is it a bad idea to start by applying to a couple positions that interest me and seeing where that gets me? I’ll of course prep for the interviews but am afraid to burn potential bridges if I ultimately decline because I’m still figuring things out.
