I think it’s insane to purchase a $5k handbag in general but do what makes you happy!
Unless you make 200k or more, a 5k handbag is a lot (and I say this as someone who loves luxury handbags). If you make 100k a year, that’s over 5% of your annual salary going towards just one bag.

Not sure about the second one. I just watched several videos of bad resellers about the worst investment bags and Chanel boy bag is always there. However, looking at stores, it seems like small quilted boy bag is doing fine.
The best investment Chanel bags now is Chanel's 11.12, classic flap and 19
However, chain and logo is general must have for Chanel resale, so you’re good to go
i just got a classic flap and i’m 23! chanel is steep but i think if you are meeting your financial goals and this is a bag you really love then go for it :) plus chanel (and hermès) hold value so if you don’t like it anymore you can sell it at what you bought it for or more, given the price increases. so it might be better to get it earlier! what are you concerned about in terms of other peoples perceptions?

Ohhhh wow you can never go wrong with the classic flap!! Im just worried about some ppl who tend to be very judgement about how others use their money. Im not rich so this purchase is kind of “out of my league”, but i thought to buy it to celebrate graduation
5k is close to retail so if I were you I’d probably choose a more classic / neutral color just so it holds more value
you can also probably find this type of color for lower than 5k in secondhand markets!

I got a tweed cf for my first Chanel at 23 because I had a decent amount of black luxury bags (fendi peekaboo, Balenciaga hourglass), but now I feel like I’m growing out of them and wished the Chanel I had was more versatile
I recently just got a black cf and sold my hourglass in an effort to downsize, if I had started with a black Chanel I think it would’ve saved me a lot of time / money, I still love the tweed one though because it was my first Chanel ♥️

Tbh im debating between a boy bag and the Hermes picotin 18 which is at 2700 pre tax.

Yeah the only concern about picotin is that it doesn’t have a strap, but i love how other ppl style it. I bought the Chanel boy, and im planning to get thr picotin in a couple of months if i have a chance to go to Vegas (I heard there are a lot of options there)
I’ve heard a lot about people who really regret making big purchases on purses at young ages. Personally when I buy expensive bags I feel scared to use them because I’m afraid they’ll get damaged, so they end up sitting on my shelf and that’s just money wasted

I totally feel you! I also heard from older people that once you hit a certain age you stop looking to spend money on these things, so maybe once im like 40, i prob will have other interests (like spending $$ to buy houses etc) haha
