Is it just me, or does every job posting now expect you to already know the exact software they use? I get needing some technical skills, but expecting entry-level candidates to be proficient in multiple systems feels unrealistic. And even at the director level or above, are they really going to be the person running reports in the system every day? At some point, it feels like companies just don’t want to train people anymore. Are people actually getting filtered out over this?

If they are asking for specific systems are mandatory and proprietary (and not nice to have) then those positions are posted for internal candidates likely and just posted externally to satisfy company policies. But many companies use generic software that it’s not unreasonable to expect someone who wants to work in the company to at least become familiar with. With Coursiv, LinkedIn and Udemy…there are also plenty of ways to get familiarity with software suited too

That’s an interesting perspective, especially on specific tool requirements being a sign the role may already be geared toward internal candidates. I agree there’s a difference between expecting familiarity with common software and making a proprietary system a hard requirement. The second one definitely feels less realistic for external applicants.

Hi everyone, I have a question. I am currently in the middle on of an interview process, where I am quite confident that I will get the job... but I want to work for another company that has contacted me 1 week ago to interview but hasn't scheduled the interview yet....

Meaning that their interview process is probably going to take longer... how should I reach out to the company and properly let them know my situation?

Is IB worth the sacrifice of WLB? Obvious pay is really good but are the prestige and pay worth it if you’re planning on only doing it for a couple years?

Currently working at an IRA with great WLB. Honestly I love my job, the firm, and people I work with.

Also doing MBA part time at a T15 school. Thinking about switching to IB but I’ve done my research and I think I would burn out of IB in two years but I might be ok with that for the opportunities after.
