Not to be a Debbie downer, but it’s a very rough time to attempt to break into a creative role. The job market for creatives is not good right now and there are a lot of talented, experienced creatives out of work, which makes it even more difficult for someone without prior experience.
VP1 isn’t wrong, but it’s never been easy to break in, now it’s maybe a little harder? My point being is that it’s hard regardless. And bad job market or not, there’s always a need for new/green folks. As long as there are senior level people, there’s a need for greener employees to do the basics. It might be tougher to break in but it can be done.
First off flip your mindset a bit, how does what you do or have learned in your current gig help differentiate you from other candidates? Also while it’s assumed today’s youth fills such entry level roles, a good CD could love the idea of an elder newby. They don’t need to teach you office 101 shit, amongst other intangibles. So yeah it might be tough, tougher than usual even. It’ll also be that much more sweet when you get the gig. Good luck your honor!
