Like any interview, except they will likely ask more rote interview questions because it’s a bit awkward to interview someone more senior. Needs to be a personality fit for them. Be collegial.

I've seen it happen for more senior positions, less so at the senior manager/director levels and below. Had a first round interview last week for an industry SM position that was done by a M level person. It was just a slightly more in depth conversation than I had with the recruiter during the phone screen. I've got the next round coming up soon which will be with a director and senior director, I expect to get into the actual meat of the interview process then.

Screening is generally done by the Recruiter, but they seem to be broadening the definition.
