Consulting buzzwords that emerge during WFH szn?
Right. Why should I be penalized for being on 5 projects with a week or two in between versus a guy on one project for 12 months. Especially when I can control those breaks.
Personally think utilization tracking and high targets are one of the biggest obstacles to Deloitte ever being in the same league as MBB. Other firms don't track it in the same way (Bain, BCG, et all) and do better financially than Deloitte...
I agree. Managing a career here is f-ing exhausting
The more iphones Apple sells, the more money it makes. The more hours a consulting firm sells, the more money it makes. A factory that produces 2,000 cars at a fixed price is more valuable than a factory that produces that produces 1,500 cars at that same price. A consultant that produces 2,000 hours... well, you get the picture
Y'all are lame. Sorry for wanting to do short term strategy projects and doing 8 this year. Guarantee I've made the firm more money than many long-term projects.
C1 - this is how you become an implementation only firm. Think about how this would impact the firms talent, brand position, etc. Who would do the strategy portion if all you do is long engagements? Quality talent doesn't want to work on implementation projects. You'll lose MBA placement, suffer in recruiting, and have a worse overall position on the market (in theory)
It should be based on revenue generated. But then you're also complaining that it's unfair. Maybe it should be based on content contribution but that can't be quantified so yeah...you'd have to be unhappy.
Given how many people on here are willing and happy to fuck around at home and cash in the paychecks...maybe utilization makes sense
Big 4 ways - old world thinking
If there were things that counted or we got adjusted utilization for PRD, it'd be great. I'm working my butt off and there's no reward. They should have a "HourlyNerd" for small, valuable projects.
@C1 A case I worked on for an auto oem was valuable from a strategy perspective because we brought in new thinking. But they had headcount capacity to execute.
Lol, meant phones, not cars. Now my analogy is all effed up
Agreed on all this. My first year, the firm was really struggling to sell work so I had low utilization and got a poor rating. I can't tell you how many senior people have told me that it's unfair, but the firm is too obsessed with utilization for it to be a fair place to work.
Feel you
As far as I understand the big 4 operate on this model. Bain, BCG, & McK don't track hours the same way we do and have a demand management system that actually places people on projects (barring negative feedback and etc).
Cant control*
I don't understand how a project can be short term yet valuable, at least at Deloitte. If we can't sell follow on implementation work, or if you don't stay on to do it yet have the strategy background, didn't we fail?
I agree with D3
Yea that hourlynerd concept should basically be the demand managers. Which basically means demand should be automated.
Does utilization at other firms work differently than it does at deloitte?
Huh, never knew that. Is there a special reason for the difference (like regulation or something) or is it just because we're set in our big 4 ways?
