My personal email is on my portfolio site so recruiters and cd’s can reach out to me about job opportunities.
I also don’t mind when students or juniors email me for general career and portfolio advice.
I think if someone I didn’t know was emailing me directly about an open role at the agency I work for, I’d prefer they find my work email, especially if there’s no clear indication that I’m the hiring manager or in charge of the open role
That’s helpful. Thank you!!
It’s a coin flip. Some creatives wouldn’t care, some would find it invasive and a little creepy that you’re mixing the streams.
I guess I have to ask myself if that’s a risk I’m willing to take
If they have a public facing email, this shouldn’t be a big deal. Go for it.
What about sending them a LinkedIn message?that’s another avenue and you don’t have to worry about personal vs professional
Honestly, I didn’t even think about LinkedIn lol. I’m always under the impression people don’t check their messages on there. I might try that. Thank you!
Not weird at all. Best of luck!
Thank you!
Someone cold called me on my personal cellphone the other day asking me to look at their portfolio. I felt it was an invasion of privacy, I went through my site and LinkedIn to make sure I delete it. Email is a toss up but not as invasive as a call
I didn't answer, they left a message and a Linkedin message as well. I was disturbed
If they’re hiring, I’d try to find their work email address. Try different configurations of firstname.lastname@agencyname.com
I have my personal email on my portfolio site and get messages every month or so from creatives. It’s hard for me to be helpful with the “I saw this job opening and am interested” requests because 99% of the time that opening is not on my team and I can’t affect much. It may take me a while to get to, but I do try to set up time with the emails that are more along the lines of “I love your work and would love a portfolio review.” And then if I like their thinking, can keep them top of mind for when I hire. I guess what I’m saying is, it doesn’t hurt to reach out. But a longer term connection will be a stronger one.
