(continued) At my review I also delicately brought up the topic and the person who conducts those reviews said he would discuss it with management to see what that looks like and get back to me. But I haven’t heard anything. I followed up again a couple weeks ago and didn’t get an answer. I really have no idea how to read all these mixed signals. I don’t how to tell them that if they’re not going to take my advancement seriously and start staffing me on real work, that I cannot be strung along and I cannot invest any more time at the firm
How no you’re not out of line.I think it’d be irresponsible for you not to ask. This is your career you’re talking about. Your employer should be open to this discussion.
Do you have a trusted partner mentor?

I’ve done the exact same thing with the same results. Curious as to what others have to say. At my spot I think the issue is that we have more partners than associates and they don’t want to further dilute their equity, but they pay us well enough to not leave and start over.
As a partner, there are really just a few things that are most important to getting everyone to vote you in. 1. Can you do good work from start to finish with little to no oversight? 2. Can you bring in new business? or 3. Can you expand existing business? And 4. Can you draw money? If you can honestly answer yes to all of those then you are ready to be a partner and are indispensable to the business. If they aren’t ready to make you partner, take your business and go elsewhere.
This sounds like my situation much earlier in my career. The firm continued to string me along for years and I was foolish enough to play along, till they showed me the door. I landed on my feet but underwent years of angst for no good reason.
