I’ve seen it happen. It helps if you have a British accent. Kidding not kidding.
Australian works too but British is better.
Yes! Get close to your strat team and volunteer for briefs. Raise your hand and ask strat directors/head of strat/CSO if they need help…obviously beyond your day job. Don’t be shy - go get it!
Happens all the time
Yep, i started my career in accounts. Got in with the lead strategist on my team, told him I was interested in strategy, the next day he dropped a bunch of reading materials on my desk and said to start with the history of account planning.
It never hurts to ask, and usually strategists are eager to help
I did! Volunteer to work on strategy for pitches (eg competitive audits, desk research), or ask if you can do any added-value things for the Strat team like putting together client newsletters, trend decks etc.
Absolutely possible. Back in my early days you didn’t have junior strategy, people use to get to account director then transition. And if I’m honest some of the best strategy people have done other roles first. Make the head of strategy or the Cso aware. Ask them for a coffee. And start reading some of the strategy books.
Oh and if you’re a rapp talk to Matt north. Good guy.
