If you only have 2-3 companies on your resume after working for nearly a decade you're not in bad shape. The average nowadays is 2-3 year tenure in roles. This does also vary from PA to industry. I had a fair amount of job hopping earlier in my career (largely due to economic issues, thanks 2008 crash) which did impact my job searches at times but I was able to overcome it. That pattern popped up again during the Covid era with lots of economic uncertainty and relocating. It's part of life sometimes that you cannot fully control.
I ask people about all their hops. If they have good explanations, I don’t ding them much for moving. I do really value people who stay, but that does not mean you should stay in a bad role. Don’t be a job hopper. Hoppers make more in the short term, but way less over the course of their career, because they rarely make it into the senior roles that really pay well. And they usually think they’re winning… If you need to move, look for a place that is not only a good fit for your current level, but has upward mobility to support your continued growth.
Totally normal these days to move around every 2-3 years.. under a year is questionable but otherwise you should be okay
If u don't move externally, you will not make bigger bumps. And titles alone don't pay the bills. 18-24 month per role is the average. Anything less looks like a hop. 3-5 yrs per role means you are focused more on stability.
