Is there a line between what people should say to coworkers about their personal lives or no? Feel like the longer I stay here and the more HHs I attend, that line has blurred significantly

Personally, I don't think there should be. Don't believe in bucketing friendships by source. Still important to be aware of who you're talking to and what they'd be comfortable hearing though.

That being said, one of my closest friends right now is a colleague because we've shared similar break up stories

I wouldn't share anything I would mind other coworkers knowing.

I have a group of friends i met at training that i tell everything to. I have another group of friends ive met through initiatives that i might end up being at that level with but itll be a bit. HHs, i limit most of what i say.

If they're "just" a coworker as opposed to a work friend, then don't talk about sex, drugs or alcohol-related shenanigans. Or religion.

So I got invited to do an on-site interview and as part of it, the hiring manager wants me to present some of the chemistry I'm currently working on. Any tips on how to ace this presentation?

Need help settling a debate with my friend. She thinks I will have an easier time getting research grants because I'm male. I think it's the opposite because companies are trying to change the status quo and get more women involved (which I'm not complaining about... please don't attack me.) Which one of us is more right than the other? I'm interested in getting as many viewpoints as possible, whether or not they agree with me or with her. Thanks!!!

Just landed a full time gig, looking to get some furniture so I’m not working on my parents’ kitchen table during this remote period. Any recommendations for desks and chairs? I’m hoping to find something that’s easy to assemble and break down for when I need to move, and something that won’t cost an arm and a leg.

I know everyone has a different kind of setup that works for them. I currently have a laptop, drawing pad, second monitor, and a desk riser.

My fiancé moved abroad for med school. Long distance is hard but I love my job, the work, the people, and the culture. I wish there were roles where you could work abroad. I wish I could work here forever, but I’ll likely need to switch to a firm that allows working abroad at some point to save the marriage. I’m afraid to tell anyone because I want to maximize my time/contribution here. Thoughts? Advice? Does anyone know of good firms that allow abroad work?

So the question has been asked a few times in the main Big Law bowl but keeps getting derailed into a political issue. As someone with a more conservative disposition anyway I'm interested in the day to day of life and work in Texas as opposed to NYC (or similar).

So, what are the pros and cons of living in Texas and working in Texas Biglaw?

So i have been fortunate that i have managed to go through my career without the need for a degree. I was lucky enough to have been hired by one of the worlds top consulting firms, worked with a whole lot of big clients and travelled a lot. It's gotten to the point where I am not even asked about the lack of a degree on my resume. Personally though, it bothers me. I have a whole bunch of certifications in my industry…but just no formal degree. (cont'd)
