Conventional wisdom is that Associate is higher. However, in practice, there is little uniformity across companies and there is a growing trend of foregoing the ACG title structures altogether in favor of “Legal Counsel”, “Senior Legal Counsel”, “Managing Counsel”, etc.
If it’s your choice, *definitely* go for Deputy GC.
Associate GC is a higher level where I am.
There are two things that matter in house: 1. Compensation; and 2. Levels between you and the General Counsel. Assuming similar comp, Counsel is a better title that AGC, if the Counsel reports to the GC and the AGC reports to a position that reports to the GC.
