ZS Associates
I have a couple of questions for ZS fishes-
1. Is it possible to turn down a promotion at ZS? I'm currently happy with my responsibilities as a Decision Analytics Consultant and don't want any added responsibilities in the near future (next 5 years)
2. Is it possible to shape up a career path in the BC stream which doesn't involve business development? I don't want to get into working on SOWs and RFPs.

Definitely value creation projects. Also, don't underestimate having a few longer term transformations / PMO type projects under your belt.
It's one thing to develop a value creation plan. Another thing to work with management to get it implemented.
Agree. In MF PE ops now
CDDs are great for getting up to speed on the core business skill set very quickly. However, value creation work will be more relevant for PE ops roles. Try to do both.
CDD = very dynamic, deep analysis for one specific part of the business lifecycle
Value creation = most of what you’ll be doing for your career; i.e., launching new initiatives, growing pipeline, etc.
Well said B1, right on.
I wouldn't do more than 2 or 3 CDDs. Very structured and repetitive process and learning plateaus. At the end of the day, PE firms hire you to drive change and you need classic transformation/value creation experience for this. I did one CDD and am in PE Ops now and don't feel I missed out a whole bunch
This is correct. CDD is a niche skill and quickly plateaus. Also it will not teach you as much about investing as you may think. Investing is all about price…
Yes
Both. CDD is helpful to understand how investors think. Value creation is the real nuts and bolts of what you’d do on the PE ops side.
You need to do both actually. Both equally valuable, hard to get a job with only one of the two.
Thanks D1!
Maybe
Can you repeat the question?
Yes, CDD usually is outsourced in PE Ops anyway at most funds. It helps with strategic thinking but value creation projects are more transferable.
