Just about the same. However, there are a handful of CPAs on my team that aren’t technical either. Aside from my manager, there is only 1 person on my team that I can brainstorm ideas with. So the credential is important, but sometimes even that isn’t enough.
I have a similar experience. I think not having a license can be offset by experience and a drive for learning more.
OP - it may be worth considering if your peers have no desire to grow into more complex roles and that is why they have not pursued the CPA. Many people are happy not moving up/learning more once they are comfortable in their roles.
Honestly? Why should they. They getting the job without the CPA is a perfect example of why it’s not a necessity. I am a CPA and I do not have a deep knowledge in all accounting related topics. Experience is king in the accounting industry and more and more people are starting to realize this. I spent 2 years to obtain my certification and honestly, idk if it was worth it.
In my firm, we have a mix of CPAs and non-CPAs, which allows for a diverse range of perspectives and expertise; however, I often find myself wishing for more collaboration on technical matters. Having a team with varied credentials fosters a richer dialogue and enhances our problem-solving abilities, so I can see how having more CPAs would benefit your team's overall performance and confidence in tackling intricate financial issues.

If it’s not because of no CPA no promotion, I wouldn’t try to get it.
