I really wonder why clients are like this and if they know they’re being annoying
It could be the position is not as urgent as you think. He may be dealing with more critical issues that require more of his attention right now. Kindly send a text message requesting to jump on a call to get feedback on the resumes you sent so you can let the candidates know where they stand, and tweak your search, if needed.
I don’t know how you typically engage with your clients, but can I suggest that when you start the engagement you spend time with the hiring manager and agree on the key KPI’s . If the client is as committed as you then they shouldn’t have a problem agreeing to an agreed turnaround on CV’s . If they propose weeks and not days, then it’s your opportunity as the expert to add some value and discuss the benefits to them of making it sooner - assuming they want to win the race for top talent. Setting expectations upfront and putting dates in diaries on all stages of the process gives you a license to chase if not hit as it’s what you both agreed .
