It depends on if your firm needs management now. TBH, 17 years with same firm is way too long and you won’t be able to get good raise. I’m in NoCal as well. You have to keep changing job every couple of years if you want good raise. Employers won’t willingly pay you big money even you do amazing work.
I’m sorry… have you never had a raise?
If you want a raise, go in with a strategy. A good approach would be to jot down some notes about things you've done in the past year that went very well. When you ask for the raise, make it about how much you're grown in the job and how you're a more valuable employee than you had been. I don't know how much you should ask for, but generally speaking, if you make a good case and ask for a number that isn't seen as unserious you should do well for yourself.
I would do your research and see what the comp should be for that role in your area. Its hard to say because the cost of living where I am, is way lower than where you live.
