May I ask, as your title states “Vice President of Sale”, have you never left a job in the past? I’m sure to get to your level and position you’ve had to have numerous tough conversations with seniors and subordinates. I would use your professional skills honed over however many years it took you to get into executive level management to convey to your CEO that the sales process is hindering movement and you’ve decided to part ways to utilize your executive level skills elsewhere. It’s business. Nothing more.
You don't have to tell them anything. And the best approach is to find another job, and then when you give notice just tell them you found a better situation for yourself. You don't owe them an explanation.
Just say that you've lost confidence in upper management, and you feel that they don't have a proper read on the pulse of the market. You are one thing to move on to pursue an opportunity with an industry leader that you feel has a better corporate sales culture.
I left my 3 digit pay sales job just recently. I was amazed that I never got an exit interview. I was there 11 years. My reasoning i told unemployment is that it was a toxic work environment. I told no lies.

It’s simple - say that you are focused on joining a company that embraces your ideas for growth(do research on the company) my experience is that companies are focused on growth but then they hire or promote leaders that are more focused on process, power and control.
