I’ve always been a fast learner, and for years I thought that was an advantage. Lately, it feels more like a trap. Every time I master something quickly, I just get handed more of it. More work, more volume, same role. Meanwhile, others get credited for growth while I quietly keep things running. I’m proud of my competence, but I don’t want it to cap my trajectory. How do you stop being rewarded with more work instead of better opportunities?

Start being very intentional with the work you want to do. If you like a certain type of project or area, lean into that. When you are offered work in an area that you don’t like, regrettably remind them that you’re already pretty much at capacity with XYZ (the work you like). Unless it’s work you like, push down any unpaid or less respected work.

It was extended before the recent announcement that TCs are going up but I don’t know if I’d be impacted regardless.

What do you do when you feel the goalpost has been/is being moved re: billable requirements? Like there's a spoken vs unspoken? I chose this job based on billables vs salary and what I'm being told I'm expected to do now is 20-30% (at least) > than what was initially agreed upon. Given my other life responsibilities, this is creating a huge strain & I feel like this is slowly getting harder & harder on my spouse & kids. I'm grateful to have lots of good work but not sure how to course correct.
