I’ve been an account manager for over 5 years now, managing everything from small startups to Fortune 500 clients, and I’m starting to think about what’s next. I like the relationship side of the role, but the constant context-switching and pressure are wearing me down. I’m torn between specializing—maybe focusing on enterprise accounts or client strategy—or pivoting into something adjacent like marketing or ops. Has anyone made a move like this? What helped you decide your next step?

When does PWC pay bonuses?

Currently scheduling “on sites” for a S&O role in CA. My referrer said they can hire as L5 or L6. Would like to land in the L6 bucket as I’ve heard 5 --> 6 is one of the more challenging promotions.

I’m looking for info on what the real difference is in responsibilities (manager vs IC, cross functional vs focused, etc) so I can focus on checking the L6 boxes during my interviews.

I’m also curious about whether this is something that I should just discuss with my recruiter directly?

Right so here’s a bit of a dilemma I work to a much higher standard at home and it’s this high standard that means I’m in line for a promotion. I’ve grown so much and I feel really strong in my role I’m also busier than ever. The problem is we’re going back into the office and I don’t want to go in if it’s just going to be senior management in asking me to get them lunches for client meetings or fetch a glass of water and cutlery for meeting rooms. Definitely not ready to go back to that….

I’ve heard it’s important to include metrics on your resume. Being in Account Management do you see value and include campaign performance for projects you managed that were successful that your proud of on your resume?

If you had a job at a big name agency in a smaller market, where you loved everyone you worked with and had just gotten a (small) raise, would you leave it for an amazing offer from a big market shop?

Who else started with small businesses and moved up to medium and large at agencies structured to handle it? I handle 40 clients and some 60 Content managers, ad managers, designers, developers, and a smattering of other positions.

Anyone else finding it very difficult to get any enjoyment out of account management these days? Any coping tips? Is 7 weeks too early to start thinking I may have made a huge mistake in switching to my current gig? I left the last place because it was overr toxic and terrible W/L balance, for one that seemed to be more “fun” and more realistic hours, only to find that I’ve now been working 12 -14 hours a day and just drowning and feeling like I cannot catch up or catch my breath. Everyone is in the same boat here which is why I’m so overwhelmed so quickly with no support. Is this an immediate red flag?

What matters more early in your career, agency name recognition or project experience?

Sometimes it feels half my day is spent jumping through hoops to schedule and then reschedule meetings around senior managements’ calendars...only for them to be so late they miss the meeting anyways🙄

What are some good practices during the sales phase of a potential project to execute before the contract is signed? Seems obvious but would love some ideas on standard operating procedures that help with seamlessly handing over a signed contract to the account team. For example, speaking to the potential client explicitly about their role in staying on schedule, reviewing scope creep consequences, etc.
