Yes, immediate red flag… what are they asking from you in an AM position that would make you have 12-14 hour days? It’s still early enough in your tenure there to set strong boundaries for working hours vs non-working hours.
Explain that you were not aware of the time commitment beyond a 40 hour work week and need to discuss compensation differences or what they can expect from you
I recently made a switch and felt this way about 6weeks-2 months in - I’m now 6 months in and still feel the same way.
Moral of the story - go with your gut. It’s likely right.
If it’s everybody and you’re the only new person, yes, red flag.
Did you make a switch from in house to an agency? Or just one agency to another agency? Does the work feel “new/different/learning curve”?
Overall I’d give be patient with yourself and transparent about it being too much work with your manager vs over working yourself to “prove” yourself but then having the over working become a standard/base line.performance.
I actually made the switch vendor to vendor, so the work in a way is similar to previous jobs. There’s just a lot of work, not enough people, and crazy deadlines. I’ve yet to even be able to tackle up selling because at this point I’ve been treading water. I’ll give it some time and try re-setting boundaries. Thanks!
There’s no set time limit to decide if a role is right for you or not. If there are tangible occurrences that have proven your workplace to be toxic, totally your call one when you put in your 2 weeks.
To conclude: No, 7 weeks is not too early.
Never too early, in fact if this is the way it’s started not much hope it’s going to get better
Coach
Never too early to start looking for your next opportunity (resume up to date, letting recruiters know you’re open, scanning posts) if that’s what you’re asking.
But in the meantime, definitely follow advice above about communicating that you’ve overwhelmed. It’s amazing how much managers will overlook someone drowning if you seem even the slightest bit competent. You might even be coming off like a rockstar if the place is a mess.
Always seek to leave a good impression. You will cross paths with many of them again and even a short stint is an opp to build relationships.
It’s never too early to know it’s not right. If you are having those feeling after 7 week, start looking for something new
Ask your boss for a quarterly check-in. That's helpful for a new hire at your level to find out what you're doing well and where you can improve.
It's also a chance to diplomatically discuss expectations. Maybe they don't know you're putting in that many hours because you're kicking ass, and the outcome of letting them know could be anything from resetting your boundaries and workload to outlining a plan for your promotion and raise.
And of course if nothing changes or it gets worse, you know where things stand and it'll be time to look.
