I’ve been applying to jobs and I feel like my resume needs to be revamped. I’m 4 years post law school and I think I can cut down some of the education specific details etc and focus on the job experience more. Does anyone know of any websites that have good resume layout examples etc for lawyers?

No specifics, but I just applied for jobs at the same level. I limited my education to two lines. 1) school, gpa, rank, honors and 2) activities/externships.

If you have significant or valuable externship clinic experience I think you could keep that as a regular item on the resume, but I found that I had more than enough firm experience to fill the entire page. Also, people hate on second pages, but I applied in house and used a portion of a second page to highlight my client experience in addition to my substantive skills. Good luck!

Offering advice to job seekers who go around recruiters and message hiring teams, execs, etc. You are putting the Recruiters job in danger. If a Recruiter declines you or doesn’t choose to reach out, it is because the hiring team declined you, or you don’t have the experience. You will most likely not be considered for future roles because of this. When I see people giving advice to reach outside the Recruiter, it’s bad advice. Very rare is this a good idea.

Hi Fishes,

I applied to one of the roles and after initial screening I happened to see in the website that there are no suitable openings for my profile.

I heard that the cool off period is six months. Does that apply to my situation because I didn't attend any interview.

Can I use referals to apply before 6 months? Or should I wait for 6 more months?

Thanks for your help.

I am far along in the interview process for a job I want (meeting with Chief Legal Officer next week), but am still accepting other interviews until I have a formal offer. However, I have an interview scheduled for early this week where, after further research, I don’t think I would be very happy. Should I let the recruiter know that now, or just do the interview for more “practice”? Thanks!

Got promoted after submitting my application for R2.

Emailed the schools and some have replied saying I should update my resume and send to them.

I'm a little at a loss of what to add to my resume. As most of you know in consulting we don't get a bunch of new responsibilities the second we get promoted to the next level (at least before getting promoted to M).

I'm thinking I will add a section for Senior Consultant and add what my responsibilities reasonably would be in 3-6 months (cont)
