I've been in email marketing for a really, really long time.

Here's the secret:

95% of it is having a clever subject line.

5% is not sending so many emails that the recipient wants to kill you.

That's it. Yes, the email should be strong and clear, but it's really about those two points above.

I'm amazed at how many clients play their SL strategy too safe, and how many clients like crafty lines, but send a shitload of emails so the novelty wears off and the creativity suffers.

Need advice - I've been talking to a Partner contact at a big-4 firm where I REALLY want to work. She sent my info to the managing partner in my city, but I haven't heard anything for about 3 weeks. Been playing it cool because I know these things can take time, BUT, I just got let go from my current firm. I have til 12/15 to find a new job.

Am I particularly uptight, or is writing meant to be done alone, without a partner talking to you? With past partners, we chat through script notes and then I go off to execute. Current partner likes to sit and chat as I write. To me, writing is crafting a conversation. So I can’t talk to you and simultaneously talk to this audience. Of course I can just say “I’m gonna go write.” But since we’re both CD level, I’m like…is this his first rodeo? Maybe other writers are different though.
