I’ve been prepping for my performance review, and I’m realizing most of my accomplishments aren’t things my manager sees day-to-day. I want to use them to justify a salary bump, but I’m worried it’ll sound like I’m bragging. How do you advocate for yourself without overdoing it?

Facts are facts. Present the information on what you do and be fair about it. It’s not bragging unless you put nonsense down that is expected details of your day to day job.

I agree!

Echoing EGA1 - be as objective as you can. Bring the receipts. Also remember, making yourself look good makes your boss look good, too.

Back it up with numbers, if that's possible. Try to show that you made a considerable difference in the outcome of projects. And weave in the theme that you've risen to challenges and you've grown in your job so your compensation should reflect that. Don't worry about bragging, it's what is required for the task.

I've been dealing with this recently as well, and being in am HR/Benefits role it's harder to track tangible metrics.

I made a tracker for my accomplishments and deliverables, this way I can also track work put into projects that were put on hold, and be able to have stats and timelines for each item.

I'm hoping it works well this year, and is something easy my manager can use to justify the work she sees and doesn't see me do - document everything, because facts don't lie.

Another thing to check is what the companies stance is on pay equity or rules in your state/province - this may also help with justifying a raise. Research the industry, your role and competitors to see what fair compensation looks like.

You got this!

Switching from commission to salary!

I’m considering a less sales-oriented role that doesn’t pay commission. The new role will have a higher base but lower overall earning potential.

What % haircut should be expected? As an example, if I make 100k (base + commission) today, would it be realistic to ask for 90k (10% cut) + equity to make up the difference?

I have been in my current job for 1 year now as a booking coordinator for a logistics company. When I started I had no idea of what my workload would be, now I noticed that my coworkers took the opportunity to pass most of their job to me. I’m burned out, can barely take break and end my days totally drained and exhausted, also the same people is harassing me with questions like: “why are you working that slow?” Or the “quality of your job is questionable because…..” continue in comments

I’m interviewing for a marketing manager role at a company based in SF. I’m genuinely excited about the role and the company but we’ve yet to discuss salary. I expect to be asked at some point, but my research has given me a VERY broad range. So I’m here to do a bit more research. I’ve got 5 very relevant years of experience and will have an associate manager directly reporting to me. Are there any marketers out there who can share their salaries in similar regions and experience levels?

Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

I’m currently in the process of being converted from contractor to permanent. In my initial conversations I was under the impression that I was in a different pay grade and asked for a salary 25k higher than the max allotted for my position. I feel like it gave the impression that I don’t know what I’m doing. Any suggestion how I can recover from this?

My husband just received a job offer on an opportunity he is really excited about. It would be great for his career and they are giving the 15% jump in base he asked for, however they won’t share what the target bonus amount would be. It’s an executive director position, so I would assume it’s a decent target bonus, but without that in writing it could honestly be a gift basket at the end of the year. Is it a red flag for them to not share this? His total comp could be less at this new job…

I received a job offer from company A and am currently negotiating salary. I have an interview with company B next week and know that they offer a higher base pay. There’s no guarantee that I will be offered a job at company B but my gut is telling me that company B would be a better fit for me. Should I accept the offer from company A, continue interview process with company B and then rescind my offer with company A if company B offers me a job? Will I be burning bridges?

For expert witnesses/lawyers

I’m a former forensic scientist that left the field several years ago. I recently received a subpoena from a case I worked and suggested to DA to have evidence re-worked by the lab or stipulation. If I am required to testify (as an expert witness), I would need to book a flight, hotel, etc. My question is this: can I ask for my requested hourly rate, travel, and hotel to be covered when speaking with DA or is that “not how this works” as the investigator put it?
