Got laid off and they tried to hire my friends at 15k lower, this is very real
people are getting squeezed more and more with prices going up. something's gotta give.
When the economy is unpredictable, employers want to get as much work out of their people for as little money as possible. And the job market is such that they will unfortunately get great candidates at lower wages because people tend to panic. This drives down wages for everybody.
There's been a lot of talk about that, and it seems quite plausible. We're currently in a job market where things are tilted in the employer's favor. There are a lot of people who have been laid off looking for work. And employers know they can lowball people and suffer no consequence. If someone turns down an offer the employer knows there are people lined up behind them and one of them will need a job and accept it.
Agreed. And yet our govt is focused on bringing back manufacturing jobs to America. 🫣
Yep I have heard this as well. I have several friends who are looking for new roles and any offer they have been given was a lowball offer. They all say the same thing, people are hoping you are desperate enough to take way less money than you deserve. I guess you really can’t fault them for taking advantage of that.
