I’ve been with my company a long time and I’m at a point where I want my pay to reflect my consistency, loyalty, and results. For those who’ve stayed long-term, what finally helped you break out of incremental raises and negotiate meaningful salary growth? Our should I just do a job change with a different company?

I keep thinking that it’s harder to do it. So it’s keeping me
Frozen in my current spot.

You have zero leverage so long as you are willing to stay. In staying you have been showing them that they can get away with continuing to pay you peanuts. The reality is that you are loyal to your need for a paycheck and the need to stay comfortable, or you would have been looking elsewhere long ago, and they know this. "Loyalty" has never been a thing, companies and employees have always done what's best for them in a given situation.

Land another offer that you are ready and willing to accept, and then see if your current company is willing to match. They might own up to having underpaid you and gleefully update your salary, but more likely they'll either begrudgingly adjust and put a target on your back, offer a much lesser increase, or tell you to take the new job.

like

Landing another offer is concrete evidence that you are good enough to leave, and that your skills and experience are valuable.

It's a really scrappy labor market right now, so don't let a protracted search affect your self worth. Very well qualified candidates like myself are having a tough time landing interviews, much less get to the offer stage.

You should set up a meeting and advocate for a raise for yourself and your loyalty to the company. Changing jobs is the best way to get paid more, but you can also negotiate at your current role.

True. I’m bad at advocating for myself. My boss is better at advocating for me than me lol

I have the same situation going on myself. I can’t bring up increases because no one got annual raises this year, so I know I would just be shot down. My director already believes we are understaffed so if I leave I know she would fight for me to stay but those above her and HR wouldn’t match another offer at the salary I’m seeking. Even though my boss would understand I think it would put a target on my back, plus there’s constant layoffs and org changes so upper leadership and HR wouldn’t care who stays or goes.

Loyalty to a company is no longer appreciated. They don’t care how long you’re around because anyone is replaceable. The thing they don’t consider is replacing you costs so much more and they would likely have to pay your replacement a higher range. My option at this point is to find another job in my desired range and then just leave. If they ask to counter then sure, but it’s not likely to happen.

Yes - you understand me! My boss would do all she can for me. But HR and her higher ups are blockers.

Hello everyone,

I wanted to know how long does Course5i take to release an offer, I cleared all rounds last friday and was going to get an offer from HR early this week (by Monday evening or Tuesday) but didn’t get any offer till now.

I loved the role and I am still excited to join the organisation so mailed a follow up to the HR yesterday but did not get any response till now. I do not want to follow up for the next 1-2 days since I feel it would be too pushy from my end.

Got offered 68k after 2 years as a contractor (62.5k) doing project management/business admin in a tech department at a Fortune 500 bank. I have an A.S degree and working on my bachelor’s/masters may 2024. I negotiated to 84k NYC. I have seen interns get offered 38 per hour (79k) for internship positions with a similar role.

Thoughts? Should I go higher? I do my job well that’s why they decided to keep me as a contractor after my internship.

Things have been a bit bumpy (not a me issue) I have a new supervisor and was recently given 7 direct reports (I had zero before). The new position while comes with a significant raise is a move to California. Any thoughts?

Should I accept the offer from company A, continue interview process with company B and then rescind my offer with company A if company B offers me a job? Will I be burning bridges?
