Once you hit menopause, the corporate world becomes more challenging. My mind is shot at 49
Oof, this was me. Breadwinning wife, mom of 3. I paid all of the penalties in this article except for infidelity (that I know of at least lol). Our marriage didn’t make it but my children now have a vibrant, happy mother of 3 instead of a miserable, stressed out mother of 4.
My big girl job is way easier than full time momming
I’ve been there too, and honestly, neither is ‘easier.’ Corporate life comes with deadlines and expectations, but staying at home has this invisible mental load that’s just as exhausting. The hardest part is the constant judgment society places on either role.
Being a breadwinning wife led in part for me to divorce and a few failed relationships.
Women still like to be taken care of, and men have egos that make them feel lesser than in such a relationship.
Interesting- I’ve always been the bread winning wife, and have not had any of these happen.
I wonder if the circumstances in which the wife becomes the breadwinner influence this.
Before we had kids my husband and I had many discussions that led to him quitting to stay home when our oldest was born. Part of our agreement was that he wouldn’t be stressing about getting back to work at the preschool stage or working part time - and we adjusted spending so that one income was enough.
I travelled a lot so he took on most of the housework, neither of us cheated nor are we divorced and I think we are both pretty happy.
