I’ve worked under managers who made me want to give my best every single day and others who made me want to walk out the door. The difference wasn’t experience or title; it was how they treated people. What qualities do you look for in a manager in this industry?

Supportive is the best quality. Give me a manager who cares when we are swamped and will actually jump in to help when they can. You can see how much better a team works when you have a decent manager.

Totally agree with you. A manager who is supportive and willing to jump in when things get hectic makes a huge difference. It shows they respect the team and understand the workload, and that kind of leadership really brings out the best in people.

Fairness. That's literally it. The ones who don't play favorites are so few and far between. It really sucks getting the worst schedule or not enough hours because you're not besties with your manager.

Totally agree with you. Fairness makes such a huge difference. When managers treat everyone equally and base schedules or hours on actual work instead of favoritism, it really builds trust with the team. It’s something that shouldn’t be rare, but unfortunately it often is.

I look for someone in the managerial role is to show up for others and have a helping hand whenever they are needed. I’m grateful for my manager now because she shows up for and has encouraging words to motivate me to be better.

That’s great to hear. Having a manager who genuinely shows up for their team and offers encouragement makes such a big difference. It really motivates you to do your best when you know your effort is seen and supported.
