Definitely. It's not just your city. From everything I've seen, salaries are depressed across the board, across all industries. It's an employer's job market and they're taking full advantage.
That's just what happens in a bad job market, it's simply the way markets operate. Employers can make low offers and feel confident someone will accept it. If one candidate turns it down, there's a queue of people behind them who will probably take it. A lowball offer is better than long-term unemployment.
Yes, they are requesting 5 years of experience and offering $22 an hour for in-office position.
Absolutely. I’m not sure where companies are getting these numbers. They don’t seem to be coming from salary surveys.
Maybe they think that candidates are desperate for a job so that they are willing to take $10-15k less. I will say that I see this in a lot of postings, but not all, thankfully.
