Sounds like a good example of sunk fallacy cost, they’d rather lose a ton of people before they let one go that they put a bunch of money into. That or they are well connected, could never possibly be the problem when it comes to the people in decision making positions.
I found in my industry role that they actually made my senior manager take professional management coaching. It actually did help, but she's still not for everyone. But usually, they will not let a manager go lightly because they have more invested in them.
I can't count the number of people that left, some that specifically stated her as the reason upon exit interviews. But our role has tough expectations from management, so I understand her being tough on the team too. Idk...
If you are really the manager what are you doing to stop this? Why aren’t you able to insulate your team from the director?
I’m one of 5 mgrs on the team and only 1 associate reports into me. I can’t insulate the rest of the team from the director because I don’t really work with them
Used to work in industry and the team also had crazy turnovers but it wasn’t the director’s fault.
It was mainly due to how fast the company grew and new changes had to be implemented but so many old employees couldn’t adapt.
WOw that is a lot of people to lose in a short amount of time. Sounds to me like the ship is sinking and it may be time for you to start looking for something else as well.
