Need ethics/moral help from my fellow 🐟 I got laid off from ACN earlier this year. I accepted an offer and started at a boutique consulting firm exactly one month ago today. This morning, I got an email from Deloitte recruiting for the same position I’m in now, which is where I want to develop my career. Part of me wants a break from the big consulting firms, but at the same time, going to a Big 4 would feel more at home to me. Is it worth entertaining the offer, or should I just stay away?
How bad is it if you get laid off/fired for low performance? Is this career suicide? What happens if you try to get another job?
What do the Partners on here think of how these layoffs are being handled? Very curious (P1, where are you???)
Advice needed! Have just been asked to Freelance with W2 form. Without any benefits. Is this even possible? Would I lose my eligibility for Unemployment insurance once the gig ends? I was laid off from my full time agency job 2 months ago and have already freelanced as self employed on an LLC since. Seems like they’re being tight and taking advantage of the current climate.
for federal projects that cap you at 40/week, do the leadership ever take this into account how it effects your utilization?
Hi Bain 🐠, how does utilization look like for AAG guys? Any distinction in terms of Marketing Science and Data Science? Which one will give you more mileage, exposure, in your opinion?
It just occurred to me that it is an option in life to have a job that does not have a utilization metric. Not sure I can fully fathom that in this exact moment.
Is utilization less important if the firm simply cannot sell enough projects to staff people on?
Someone explain to me how this works: if I have really good snapshots with performance differentiators for almost every snapshot I have, but my utilization is below the goal for my level. I’m asking..
Got fired today. All my above the line work got positive nods. My CD was overly picky about every word in my email blasts and collateral. I’m sure that’s what did it. Luckily I have a produced radio spot, another on the way, and tv spot being shot this month. Any advice?
How hard should you actually work in consulting? Obviously we have utilization requirements so we work long hours but I’m tired of giving 100% of my brain power. Is there any benefit of working harder? IMO there’s an incentive to work slower
This just in: Uncle Ernie telling us how shitty of a year we had and that they're stripping our firm-wide holidays so that we can be utilized more and reach our vision 2020 goals!
What’s everyone’s life utilization %?
Got a great offer at another consulting firm but worried about prospect of getting laid off after joining given current climate. Thoughts?
How fucked am I as a first year BA who will have 60% utilization at year end? Instant 4?
Utilization above 80%, $1M managed revenue and now $700k sales credit @ 1/2 year. Bringing my A game in '17!
Currently on the beach and decided to go to Paris with my girlfriend..bloop I literally am not utilized for the past 2 months - might as well make the best of it 🙌
Is taking the sabbatical offered by pwc, career suicide... in a time when utilization matters so much?
Lowkey confused, I joined the firm in July and both my standard & adjusted utilization are at 50%. Is this good?
Deloitte OCM laid off consultants and analysts. A recruiter contacted me about a position that listed Deloitte OCM methodology and ChangeScout experience as a plus. It is a contractor to hire position that can be remote now and into the future. The rate is too low for me and it seems@more on target at the analyst to SC level. DM me for Deets.
Any insight on getting MBA from mendoza as far as prospects for transitioning into a post-mba strategy consulting role? It’s ranked outside the top 15 but from research seems like it still sends plenty of grads to top consulting firms (not MBB)
I am interviewing at D and two industry roles ( change management leads, on a team of change practitioners so not a leader of a coe). Thinking of the role(s) after this next role (senior managers, directors), will it be a mis-step to never have done consulting/client services if many of the job posting list 3-5 years or more in consulting? Am I shooting myself in the foot if I take an industry role again)? I would be coming in an a senior consultant at D. Continued below in comments
Whats your go to WFH lunch?
Hi tax 🐠, I have a question for those who prep individual tax returns. My parents claim my grandfather as a dependent on their tax return and due to their low income, receive PTC for the premiums they pay on his insurance (not eligible for medicare). However, would it be advantageous to have him file for his own tax return (he stays with my parents and doesn't have his own proof of residency via bills). If so, can he get PTC if his income is 0?
What activities could my parents do with my 3 month old? Background: This is their first grandbaby and the first time that they are meeting her due to COVID. They are coming for two weeks while I transition back to work and are staying in an Airbnb close to our apartment. We live in LA. Just trying to get some ideas! :)
Would you leave the Big 4 to join Google, Amazon, or Facebook? Consider someone in their early 20s
How does the holiday weekend impact your quota? Still the same? It's still the same for me, which I feel is unfair.
ClearView Healthcare Partners completed it’s sponsored sale from RLH to GHO Capital. Thoughts on how this will play out for the firm?
Biden Administration Tipping Point? I’m starting to think the wheels are coming loose on the Biden administration train. The Delta variant is still eating up the news cycle and the idiotic back and forth on masks and Fauci’s nefarious plot/imminent sainthood are keeping most of the debate away from the simmering underlying issues. My guess is that a year from now we’ll be looking at mid terms no longer defined by a pandemic response but by inflation, deficit, crime and immigration.
Have anyone done contracting negotiations before? I've interviewed for co A & B and co A extended an offer today. The offer does not meet my current salary. Co B's interview structure is 3 rounds and I've finished my 2nd round today. The recruiter mentioned that since I am a contractor my current salary is incomparable as they will provide benefits, etc. Is this true? I have 2 yrs of contracting HR exp from fortunate 500 co’s & OMW to get my SHRM-CP. Appreciate your advice in advance.
I have been gunning for a promotion for over a year, and more so in the past 6 months since we’ve had other folks promoted. I’ve heard “Let’s make that happen” and “I’ll look into it” from managers, as well as repeatedly praised for my hard work. But when I follow up about a promotion... crickets. Meanwhile, I am getting recruiter inmail every week, often for senior roles. I love my team, but I’m getting so frustrated about my lack of growth. Advice?
Had couple of interviews with a Faang company but literally have been told that the hiring manager is out on business travel, pto, etc literally 4 times and now 1.5 months has passed since my last
Ok so ... no more ACA. Instead a tax refund subsidizing healthcare coverage... I feel like the only thing this changes is it deregulates insurance companies. It also removes cash flow from the poor.
