Leadership asked me to recommend whether we should build a capability in-house or buy a vendor solution, and I know whichever option I choose will upset one group internally. The build option helps long term but takes longer, the buy option is faster but limits flexibility. How do you make that call when both sides have strong tradeoffs?

I have 32k miles with THY that are about to expire. Normally I'd go ahead and book a flight, but I can't project which countries might be locked down again 5-6 months from now (haven't accrued enough PTO to travel in near future). I see a lot of people saying that product managers don’t make as much as engineering managers, which is probably true at the middle management levels, but at the Director/VP levels it seems like product pulls way ahead. I’m trying to pivot from my current engineering manager position but want to make sure that I’m not making the wrong move. Opinions? Seeking advice on career paths within tech after bizops. Currently in bizops and former consultant, and while the work is fine I’ve realized that bizops feels similar to consulting and in the long term I’m looking for a role that has more ownership and ideally more analytical. Does anyone have any advice/anecdotes on other roles that may be suitable, and what it takes to get there? Thank you!
