Privilege plays a huge role in who gets seen and who gets stuck behind the scenes. I think companies need to actively invest in access—through scholarships, stipends, and partnerships with schools outside the usual Ivy League pipeline. Talent is everywhere, but opportunity isn’t.
Paid internships is something I strongly stand by. Nobody should be working for free. Getting a level field is extremely difficult, but there is a lot more to be done that would at least close the gap some. Companies investing more in employees from early on would go a long way not just for the entry level worker, but retaining talent for the long term.
Rising Star
It’s a huge issue. So many opportunities go to those who can afford to take them, not necessarily those who are most qualified. Expanding paid internships, mentorship programs, and scholarships could help, but the industry still has a long way to go in addressing this kind of privilege.
