Let’s talk about financial privilege in this industry. I know people who landed internships at top firms because their parents could afford to cover three months of unpaid work and a $2,500/month Manhattan sublet. Meanwhile, I was juggling two part-time jobs just to finish school and still graduated with $60K in debt. It’s not that I didn’t work hard—it’s that they never had to worry about surviving while getting ahead. How do we level the playing field when access—not talent—is what opens the first door?

Privilege plays a huge role in who gets seen and who gets stuck behind the scenes. I think companies need to actively invest in access—through scholarships, stipends, and partnerships with schools outside the usual Ivy League pipeline. Talent is everywhere, but opportunity isn’t.

Paid internships is something I strongly stand by. Nobody should be working for free. Getting a level field is extremely difficult, but there is a lot more to be done that would at least close the gap some. Companies investing more in employees from early on would go a long way not just for the entry level worker, but retaining talent for the long term.

It’s a huge issue. So many opportunities go to those who can afford to take them, not necessarily those who are most qualified. Expanding paid internships, mentorship programs, and scholarships could help, but the industry still has a long way to go in addressing this kind of privilege.

Hi guys.. i just need some advice.. i have given the interview in p&o. The interview got over before time that made me doubt that they dont want to consider me. At last i was asked if i am open to travel or not. Should I take it as a positive sign and wait.

Just little anxious about the result. How long do they communicate about the selection

Thanks

Just found out that my favorite aunt, who claimed I was her “favorite” niece, chose to leave all her valuables to her other two nieces who never visited or called her once in the last ten years. My aunt passed away suffering from cancer last year and didn’t have her own kids. I was there by her side throughout her battle. I still wish I had done more, made her life easier. I probably sound petty, but a part of me is forcing me to re-evaluate every interaction I ever had with her.

Interview tomorrow for a tax associate opening at RSM. Been working in a mid-size city (different firm) that is about 70 minutes from this new home office in a larger metro. How flexible is WFH or dual model going forward post Covid? Am interested in this position and going to tax, but not be able to relocate for family reasons. Don’t want to drive 700 miles per week M-F. What will dual model be like going forward? 1-2 times week, 4-5 month? Seems like tax was more flexible than audit pre-Covid
