Hey Fishes,
Require urgent suggestions
I will be joining Oracle Financial Services Software(OFSS) and I am worried about job security considering the layoffs that will be happening in Oracle as per below link:
https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.crn.com/news/cloud/oracle-considered-1b-in-cuts-thousands-of-layoffs-report&ved=2ahUKEwjv0Lyb3-34AhX29zgGHZGqBBYQ0PADKAB6BAgEEAE&usg=AOvVaw0c9Bz3n-mb4BhVdPKvIXnE
Require suggestions on whether it would be a wise call to move to OFSS now.

You are not behind the wheel. I started in the industry at 25 after grad school. Don’t get stuck on where your peers are and stay in line on what route you want to go. Depending on your market, reach out to someone on LinkedIn or go to an event to network within the industry
Agree with supervisor 1, don’t compare yourself to others it drives your crazy.
Also this industry is focused on relationships, I’ve gotten many offers for jobs that I’ve never applied for simply because of my relationship game. Get in front of people, reach out to people that work at the agencies you want to work for in the roles you want to be and learn from there and connect authentically (don’t force it, it’s obvious)
Also as for going back to grad school, idk? Like unless you feel like you want to try and do MAIP or something? Idk if it’s necessary yknow?
You’re definitely not behind the wheel! Everyone has their own timeline and comparing yourself won’t give your the shift you’re seeking. I say prepare vs compare is the motto. I was a jr. until around 25/26 but put myself out to some really amazing recruiters (after being super frustrated in a role) who really helped me by 1) accurately assessing the value of my skill set and demand vs the current marketplace & 2) gave me honest feedback about any areas for improvement to become more marketable to different roles on the brand and agency side. Outside of that I’ve read some good career strategy books like “Stealing the Corner Office” (note tone is a bit abrasive from the writer but everything he’s laid out has come to fruition in some way as I’ve grown in my career) and Carla Harris’ books “Expect to Win” & “Strategize to Win". These are all starting points and not cure all’s. I do think tapping into other points of wisdom like these will however help you consider your narrative and may help shift what you see as a possibility for yourself. Trust, you’ve got this! Seriously. Let’s get it!
We have entry level media planning openings in Chicago, if you'd like to apply. Sometimes it just helps to start somewhere
I’m interested!
Oh..my agency/brand recruiter recommendation is Pat Sklar and Associates (forgot to include).
I know how you feel. I know it’s frustrating. You are not behind. I was 26 when I became a junior art director. A lot of people I went to school with are creative directors. And I almost gave up completely. I don’t know much about what goes into being a brand exec but I do know a lot about feeling like it’ll never happen. One of the things that helped me was reaching out to people at the portfolio school I attended. Was able to revamp my book and get some additional help/support. Is that an option for you? Are there industry specific events in other places you can attend? Are you willing to move almost anywhere?
reached out to people on LinkedIn and updated my resume. I’m wondering should I switch careers to something else. I love how black leaders in the industry are making strides for our voices to be heard. Is there any advice or tips? I’m also thinking of going to grad school.
TIA!
What city are you in?
Chicago
Late try just celebrating a 38th birthday. I went back to school and changed my major I had one year left to graduate and lost my job so I couldn’t finish paying for college. Luckily for me my last year consisted of portfolio building, so I have the tools that I need to do freelance work, but not they papers to get a job in my field. 🤷🏽♀️ You can not compare were you are and were the next person is. You never know what they had to do, or go through to get were they are. What is for you is for you if a door doesn’t open for you that means you were at the wrong address. There is something better waiting.
