In a meeting we a client, we were looking at a stock image of a smiling Black man holding a baseball bat while wearing a hoodie. The client comments that it’s the wrong way to hold a bat. Cool. But, then follows up and says, “Also, he just looks aggressive. Like, this person would definitely attack me and my family.” I was shocked. But, apparently, I was the only one. Throughout my career, I have worked at both “traditional” and “digital” shops. My current agency would fall under traditional but also offers digital services. Our process, roles and skillsets seem way outdated but I wasn’t sure if it was just my opinion or if this is just how it works. For example, we have no CTO or tech leads. Our digital producers feel more like project managers than actual producers. Account Management is just traditional, no real digital knowledge. Feels layered and dated.

I’ve been in community corrections for almost two years. I love what I do in case management, for inmates working on reentry but I would like to explore other job roles and start making a better income. I’m really interested in tech and project management roles. I just do not know where to start far as getting my foot in the door with either industry. I have a BA criminology, I adjust to quick changes, I thrive in fast paced environments and I learn quick. I have a great work ethic.
