looking for a job and not getting many interviews. I have been looking now for 5 weeks, and have no gaps in employment, increasing job responsibilities, and two wonderful letters of recommendation from my current employer. My current employer is closing the business in the next 6 weeks, and I really do not want to be on the unemployment line. Any tips or suggestions would be helpful. Looking for Admin Asst, Office Asst, Office Clerk or Receptionist positions in the South Sound area.

I have applied to over 40 jobs, and I have had 6 interviews. Its so disheartening right now, but I keep applying. Hopefully the next good job is just around the corner.

The best way to get a job right now is with a direct referral. Is there any chance your boss might be willing to speak to any business friends of theirs on your behalf?

The job market and economy are shaky right now. I would suggest having someone look over your resume which some of the Workforce Centers / Career force Centers have experienced people that will do that for you for free plus they can either revamp your resume or give you suggestions on it plus also they do offer mock interviews and other things to help with your job search. My issue is that I have 30+ years of customer service experience that I can only seem to land customer service roles even though I am looking for Customer Service or General Office roles in professional environments. I found a seasonal role, am on Day 3 of training, and then I stumbled into a higher paying customer service role that I will be starting the second week of September and this all after being unemployed for 5.5 months. At least you have some notice on your company closing as mine abruptly closed and most of us were done that same day.

I’ve been an Admin Assistant for 5 years with the last 2 in a government. I have worked hard to get here thinking this is what I wanted. Now that I’m here, making 40k CAD/yr. I feel like I’ve hit a glass ceiling and I’m desperate for more money and responsibilities - my job is way too easy. But not many opportunities for growth. Any suggestions on where to go from here?

Hey! I’m new here and would like some input. I’ve been working in a new position for almost 5 months. In that time I’ve witnessed some unethical and lots of unprofessional behavior. I’ve been yelled at and berated by my coworker 3 separate times because of minor errors. I’m ready to quit. Help,I started a new career n the events industry and I think I have to quit! The person I report to is so disorganized and there are no other managers in the office to direct day to day operations of our department. I ended cutting my hand on an exacto knife and there was no first aid! Is this normal?
