Hi all,
I’m looking to relocate to Seattle. Does anyone know if any of the Big 4 are still recruiting campus hires to start in Summer/Fall 2023? I’m open to either Audit or Tax, but I have internship experience in Tax.
I applied and received an offer at a Big 4 in San Francisco (campus hire), but I’ve decided Seattle is the better fit for me as it will be closer to my hometown and family in Vancouver.
Thanks!

I would recommend turning the focus of your course toward writing instead of reading.
Any assessment that is Google-able, is not rigorous and should have been left in the 20th century ( back when Google didn’t exist).
I thank you both for your ideas and perspectives. At this point I think that giving more thought-provoking and critical thinking questions may be the route to go focusing more on writing. The current situation allows us the freedom to change things that we need to change to fit the need.
That’s a great idea! I will definitely consider the chunking and creating their own slide show. That’s more of what I’m looking for. Regardless of the situation, they are learning. Maybe it’s not what we expect or assign but they are learning how to make it through a tough situation.

Have students cintribute 3 questions and answers to the assessment. They like that level of collaboration and sense of input. You will be surprised at the level of rigor they provide in their offerings.
For grammar, writing, vocabulary, or literature? If literature is it a novel, short story (obviously either fiction or NF), or poetry? And how are you set up, all asynchronous, synchronous (remote live is what my district called it), or both? Help me to help you. 🙂 Last, are they seniors? Because last semester seniors, even “normally” are a different kettle of fish (so to speak).
Most definitely! My seniors are totally awesome, for the most part; however, they also make me crazy. Prolly why I teach them, because I lost my mind years ago..😁😂
You can have them write their answers in so that they are not multiple choice. I’d also make it more constructed-response based— that way their responses are all in their own words, and there isn’t a way to cheat.
Write your own assessments. Bring in students' own opinions and experiences and opinions as much as possible. Focus on the analysis or argument the student is making, not the content of any reading you assign. Give them less questions to answer in more depth.
One thing that worked really well recently-we were working on interpreting a poem and I had them paraphrase it. They kept the same stanza structure, but their poem didn’t need to rhyme. It was a short poem, but you could have them do a section of a long poem. It really helps them to get the meaning of the poem and it can be fun. Another thing you can do is have students find songs with the same theme or narrative and share them. You should make sure the lyrics are “clean” first. The class can connect to the idea of a song as poetry set to music.
I like using Sparknotes' analyses as prompts; use the Sparknotes, verbatim, as a starting point and ask students to elaborate on those points by writing their own paragraphs using embedded text evidence.
What platform do you use?
And, really, what's to stop them from searching with their phones? You can put up deterrents and make it harder but if they want to cheat, they will. There's really no fool proof way.
