EM1, I’m gonna assume you’re not aware that principals and partners are essentially the same thing at KPMG. You can’t be a partner if you don’t have a CPA at an accounting firm, hence the term “principal.” Principals are referred as partners here. But hey, what do I know?
Y'all know that a "principal" at BCG is the big 4 SM/Director equivalent, not PPMD, correct?
P1 - what was your impression on relative ease/difficulty of making partner between those options?
Yes ^
Depending on the seniority 350-450k I would assume..
EM1, I’ve heard rumors of Partners/Principals at Big 4 firms making twice that much
OP, can you confirm that you are talking BCG Principal title (at which point, the above seems about right for an experienced principal)?
Does everything have to turn into a pissing match?
It’s competitive and comes with an amount of vacation and a bonus that is a percentage of your base. Additionally there are benefits
BCG1- can you share what the base is for Principal? I do very well now, trying to weigh if it’s worth continuing with the process for a role that requires more travel and possibly same pay. Thanks!
OP - take my comments for granted and be happy with the range pls ;)
BCG1 good practice
Thx MCK1 and PWC4. Basically I’d make ~10% more income and a sh*t load more headache.... hmmmm..... not sure it’s worth it lol
Not clear that we would hire you, so probably not a problem you’ll be confronted with
OP - seems like your taking a pretty short view comparing only the P1 package. 3 years later, P4 can approach 500k and 1 year after that, the floor on Partner comp is close to $1M.
Floor @ 1M? Fair enough but Wow.. compared to other 2 MBs
Technical floor a bit lower, but most Partners have said being there requires a bad firm year, crumbling platform, etc. Worth noting: we take ~1-2 years longer to Partner than you McK (6.5-9 years post MBA with mode near 8). Back in our favor: all our partners have the same voting rights; there isn’t a major governance difference b/t Partner and Sr. Partner

BCG 1- thank you, but as an FYI I’m already in the interview process, just haven’t gotten to comp yet. Looking to manage my expectations.
Others, thank you- but it’s about trade offs. The $ amounts your saying are actually on par with other firms, just balanced differently. For example Deloitte, Accenture etc... SM now Pays $260 base with 30%-40% base, RSU grants (Accenture), profit share (Deloitte). I’m not saying the name and reputation is equal to BCG, but sounds like total comp/package is similar (even leave, PTO etc...), even as you progress... but the pay bump/differentiator is really the brand equity you gain on your resume, and the quality of people you work with.
Thanks for the thoughts everyone!!!!
Partner comp and time to partner is v v different
Does complain differ in NYC or same across all US?
Same across US
Thank you BCG3. That’s what I’m starting to see as I go through the process!
Sorry - „complain“ should be „compensation“ - auto correct.
As we are talking just out of interest - do you guys know where PR upper ends of leading T2 firms stand such as OW, S&, ATK (that’s probably it) - similar (up to 500) or ending at a 400k ish range ?
