I just left my pre-seed startup that was running out of cash (we made $100,000 in revenue this year, and sunk $1m in costs). I was making $40,000 as a developer (plus 20k stock options at $1/share per year) and they refused to pay me any more money. I have 17,000 vested stock options, total number of shares at the time of my contract was 4million. I burst into tears Friday as I said goodbye to the best TA ever! She is now a kindergarten teacher in another district. It took me an hour to get over it and I know the other teachers and admin thought I was crazy. Change happens. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate so much and feel very lucky to have a job BUT I am losing all the energy and excitement regardles of the project. Every day I struggle with going back to this consulting work. I just don't have the energy to focus (this is not the case for other things and side hustles).
