I’m sorry, but cancelling student debt is absurd. It’s essentially giving universities carte blanche to continue to increase costs even if the value they provide does not increase proportionally.
Regardless, forgiveness is a slap in the face to the Americans who made thoughtful financial decisions to: 1) not go to college, 2) go to a less expensive college, 3) minimize their lifestyle to be able to afford college without debt, and 4) minimize their lifestyle to aggressively pay off their debt. Forgiveness does not incentivize prudent financial decision-making.
D2, speaking of childish behavior, it's easy to hide behind a keyboard and anonymously insult someone who just planned and worked hard to pay almost $400k in tuitions. Enjoy your Biden bucks (I am genuinely happy for you) and grow a pair.
My comment was directed at someone who talked about the privileged people being the ones against student loans write offs. There are many of us who grew up middle class - hardly privileged- and accepted our responsibilities
My parents paid for all my college and will not be receiving and forgiveness (obviously).
I am very happy for the people who weren't as privileged as I was getting a break. Public education should be free anyway
Public education SHOULD be free… which is why people should be pissed that the gov just gave schools everywhere a $10-20k cushion and 0 consequences.
I don't subscribe to this notion of "if I had to, you should too", but this doesn't solve the problem. Tuition remains at the same astronomical price, and the same loan infrastructure is untouched.
Not sure what we've permanently gained here. I think this DID help people that didn't finish school and/or didn't land a good job after school - and I think that's valuable.
But to wave the "mission accomplished" flag is inaccurate.
I’ve been holding student debt specifically because I expected it to get cancelled, thanks for the free investment money everyone
Has it been stated when the cancellation will go into effect for those who qualify?
Biden is speaking about it at 2pm ET!
1K but same lol thank god
