The variation is significantly greater than what you quoted depending on company, practice, location, etc. First year SM here making $200k, and it goes up from there within my practice
MBB, Parthenon, S&, ATK, LEK, OW, Parthenon all pay about the same first year post MBA. Was $170-$180k but everyone is raising pay right now by ~10-15%. That’s for post MBA. First year managers typically make at least ~25% more than first year seniors.
Depends on firm more than anything. Our first year consultants make the high end of that range
I need to leave ey if these numbers are accurate
I should have applied to Bcg instead of going back to Deloitte post mba lol
He’s not being disingenuous... first year consultants at MBB are at 165 base + 30-40k bonus... and I’ve heard that Ms at BCG are ~300k average with the new comp structure
D2 you're embarrassing us in front of the rest of the class man 🤦♂️
BCG1 is being disingenuous. You can actually just look all the stats up online. SMs at D make quite a bit more. Most Ms (EM at MBB, I believe) make the range you’re posting, plus bonus. At least in the S&O model at D
I think bcg1 is talking about all in comp which makes sense given 165 base
OP- my SO is a manager at EY making 16*k. Your numbers seem low. I was told SM should hit 220-300 base. Nobody would stay at EY if they couldn’t be competitive
Base is all I really wanted
It happens to be for OP’s question, and how various people are responding. Itemizing might help OP.
The time has come for us to take our own poison pill on this thread. “It depends.”
Op, these numbers are strategy/MBA salaries for consulting. For other groups, Managers are in the 130-165k base range and SM is in the 175-230ish base.
BCG1 isn’t being disingenuous — average total pay as a M is far higher than $210K. It depends on ratings, but it’s closer to $300K than $200K.
Any jobs available lol
I knew a manager at EY at 105k base who had >10 years exp. My M1 base was 155k with 5 years exp. I know others higher than me. Even at M level it varies wildly by group/skill set.
I'm making $375,000 all in and I'm an M2
432K, first year analyst here. The 401K match still sucks though
Not joking, I'm just REALLY doing my job AWESOMELY.
What is your base?
Wow bcg is where it’s at
The 165 base doesn’t take into account all the other costs that other firms pick up (e.g. tuition). Total comp is essentially the same regardless of firm. It turns into a question of career progression after B-School
SMs, who are top performers, are around 300K+. All in
I know Ms at EY who made $140k and $220k base. As always it depends massively on group. Similarly SMs can be <$200k or >$300k.
