Job-Hunting reach-out to VC from previous fundraising effort for own startup
I have e-mail archive from 1y ago of my reach-out to 65 VCs in London: we had video calls, they might remember me still, who knows.
I want to send a reply/forward message to the same e-mail thread from abc@gmail.com, saying that I am looking for roles within their VC firm. Is that a good idea?
Or shall I just start new email thread and mention how I know them?

I can guarantee you if you come in wearing a tie at work as a corporate associate everyone will make fun of you behind your back - I know because we have a tie guy at the office
Because, fair or not, it’s not part of the culture so you end up looking like a tryhard weirdo.
Why do we need to dress up to please you?
Are you telling men to smile more!?
they want to flirt with men in the office
My office is maybe half capacity on a good day. I speak to 2-3 people in person, the rest over phone or on Zoom. The attorneys and clients I interact with (both men and women) dress like they’re at a PTA meeting. Unless I have court or a client event, why would I break out the good stuff?

For me it’s about mental efficiency. As much as I enjoy putting together outfits on my off time or on weekends, when I’m heading to the office I’m usually too rushed and stressed and don’t have the time or energy to think through color combinations, so 90% of the time I keep it simple: grey or navy pants, white or light blue button-down. It’s not that I don’t like color, I just find that I just don’t have the bandwidth lol. That said, the other 10% I’ll throw on a light lavender or baby pink shirt for a little razzle dazzle.

Also, ties are an absolute no-no (unless I’m required to wear a suit for some reason).

A tie would look really weird on a t-shirt or polo.
how about a bowtie on a pantagonia vest
We’re not Barbies. Women like to dress up, men don’t. It’s pretty simple
If you think dressing well means wearing more color or a tie, maybe reevaluate your own understanding of taste. Agree the men are dressing subpar but the answer is not “be less boring”.

Agreed. And no corporate light blue—doesn’t count as a color.
Light blue can be so pretty though! It’s boring alone but you can work with it to make it fun
A5 is right. OP wants us to be fashion victims.
This is decided entirely by the environment at your firm. I'm dressed to the nines every single day. Not because it's mandatory or because everyone else does, but when I dress this way, I feel like a million bucks and believe me, it matters to high value clients.
I agree completely.
are you a man or woman
You def ain’t talking to me!
Men are held to different standards unfortunately and there’s no need to dress up anymore.
The difference has become far clearer since I went in house. I’m a nearly 50 year old man. I’ve been in house for about 5 years now in a pretty casual environment (my typical work attire is jeans and a polo with sneakers). I’m always professional looking but it’s not far beyond what I’d wear sitting around at home. But even here, “casual” attire for women is still much more done up than for men.
It’s comfortable and acceptable, without the potential downside of going “out there” on a fashion choice.
I guarantee you don’t have enough to do at your job if this is your cause for concern.
