Midlevel, lateraled to my current firm a few years ago and I’m happy, like my team, but have never made hours/bonus so never felt completely secure. I’ve started selectively looking at in-house positions - would it be silly to consider leaving?

Certainly not silly to consider leaving if you don’t see yourself at the firm long term, there’s no harm to exploring whether the stability you’re looking for might be elsewhere. Keep in mind though that not every firm and not every group is “up or out.” Counsel or NEP roles could potentially be options and people can sit at those roles the last 20+ years of their career if their practice and firm allow it. It’s not uncommon IME.

Trying to get ahead of my caseload feels like trying to climb a hill made of loosely-packed pebbles. No matter how much I scrabble, I’m sliding closer and closer to the bottom.

How do you get caught up (or even ahead) when you’re always behind? Assume that all things that can be offloaded have been offloaded. I cannot take one more all nighter trying to get a motion drafted two days before the deadline because I couldn’t get to it earlier.

Hi Fishes,

I have got offer from CTS and doing pre-onboarding formalities. As part of BGV the are asking to fill HR Manager name and contact numbers. How we can fill that because my previous company is HCL where the HR people are keep changing & @they don't even respond to their employees. Also, we couldn't add their phone number as well. How do you manage keeping track of and responding to teams chats and emails in a timely manner? I have a hard time addressing chats when I am focused on something else, because I know it will completely derail me. Associate at an AmLaw 100 firm doing patent work. I applied to a part time masters program to try to pivot to a different technical field (still doing patent work, but in something that interests me more than what I’m doing now). My work product is becoming worse and partners are noticing/commenting. I just hate the practice area so much that every time I am asked to do something I just get it done as quickly as possible and can’t be bothered to put in effort. I’m in the biglaw hiring process through an outside recruiter. It’s so frustrating because he’s having these conversations with the firm and only paraphrasing the gist of them to me. He says he can’t forward the exact emails. Is that BS? Why can’t I see what the firm is telling my recruiter?
