This is a prime example of testing the spirit. If it goes against the word of God then I’m not rocking with it. I agree with you OP. I love ALL my neighbors but I will not encourage others to go against God’s word. That’s dangerous as a follower of Christ.
He’s calling it a civil union. That is different from marriage. Personally, I think it is wrong for the government to re-define what marriage is (e.g. Obergefell) according to the Bible. However, I think that allowing same sex civil unions is actually great because it still protects the institution of marriage. I don’t think he is out here blessing homosexuality as you say. Even if same sex marriage or same sex civil unions are illegal, will that save anyone? Nah. Also, that really does not directly effect us anyway. It does not mean we can’t do what Christ asks of us which is to show his love to the world by radically loving sinners. Think about how Jesus went to the worst people. He did not start listing off all their sins. He shared the gospel. At the end of the day that’s Really all we can do.
How do any of you expect people who aren’t Christians to follow the word? Unreal. Stop throwing stones.
We like to think that religion always serves a good purpose. But, the fact is there are multiple religious viewpoints, and in the future there may be even more religions that appeal to peoples’ worse instincts. Religious people need to understand that their religions have often had a very negative effect on the lives of decent people. Religions also don’t exist in a vacuum. If everyone with religious views practiced their faiths in the confines of their church and accepted the rights of others to live their lives autonomously and with the same freedoms religious people enjoy, this question would undoubtedly be worded differently. But I vividly recall the Catholic Church fueling many millions of dollars into California to sway public opinion on gay marriage in a failed attempt to get it outlawed in that state. Have your opinions. Regard gay people as evil “sinners” unworthy of basic freedoms. But don’t come after gay people and try to take away their rights. To the extent you do that, you invite a war that, culturally, you won’t win.
False prophet.
He stated, I believe, that civil unions are acceptable for same-sex couples to protect their rights. He has repeatedly said same-sex marriage is not on the table.
C2’s comment is outrageous and I point you to Matthew 7:1-3 as a refresher.
You, me, or your pastor do not have a monopoly on God’s truth.
