Agreed that need to go after offshoring. It’s time to stop putting shareholders over the people who have a share of this country
Shareholders are the people of this country
Pro
Both should be reduced. h1B needs to be reduced by like 99% and offshore needs to be kept under control.
Pro
Amen. I think H1B need to be a case by case and not some rubber stamp program. There has to be an actual need and effort to fill with an American citizen first. Offshore needs to completely go away.
Personally I don’t think AI is nearly advanced enough to take over roles that require critical thinking or taking on complex challenges. I would think the first jobs replaced by AI are offshore roles that were sent to cheaper locations because they’re relatively menial.
Like why would I bother with an offshore coder who sends me mediocre code and technical documents that I have to spend time fixing while dealing with a large time zone difference when I can ask AI to donut and get basically the same result. I think we’ll see 20-30 offshore people replaced by 1-2 onshore folks who work with AI in near future.
I 100% agree with you but I would also point out that the demand for offshore has significantly increased in the last 5 years. Before COVID, It was very common to staff an entire team of onshore resources but I rarely see that today
Desi consultancies and WITCH companies have spoiled the lottery system with simply untamed greed

Two sides of same coin. Both need to be dramatically curtailed.
There were not this many international students to begin with, u til Indian banks started giving loans for students to head to no name stupid universities like ‘northwestern Arkansas’ and ‘central Missouri’
There are less jobs in the market due to combination of stuff - tariffs , uncertainty etc. Instead of creating more jobs the focus has again changed to creating divide and have people fight against ppl. It’s all about the narrative . When the country’s leadership should focus on creating more jobs , it is focusing on creating a divide so people don’t think about what is actually happening that is leading to less jobs in the market. Charlie’s Kirk death also became about creating a divide when it should have been about gun reform . Identify fear based leadership vs opportunity based leadership . Fear based leadership will always create hate and will lead to suffering for everyone . No one is excluded from that
I feel none of these were decisions were taken diligently . Just listen to what commerce secretary said . Who has no business with these visas and how disconnected the language in the bill is with reality.
Immigration and work visas must be a comprehensive exercise with all parties involved else we will be fighting on X and Reddit and continue the chaos and confusion with no real benefit for Americans just the corporates who will outsource or take the lowest paying resources. That’s free market!!!
This is going to tremendously increase the F1 student visa abuse. As per the policy, they don't have to pay $100k for transfer from F1 visa to H1B visa.
The wording of this EO is super ambiguous but it appears to only apply to individuals whose H1B petition has not yet been approved AND need to enter the US from abroad. If they are already in the US as students or under some other visa before applying, it’s unclear if they will be affected. Although if they need to leave the US to get a visa stamp, and then become subject to it, that could be a gotcha.
Offshoring and AI both have bigger impact on the job market. There’s also family based immigration which is permanent and brings over a lot more people each year.
I’m personally not opposed to legal immigration. I think the pros heavily outweigh the cons. But yeah offshoring should be illegal and we need new policies around AI usage
I think we should decreese your salary to $85k🤣
yeah… I know…but hey I got it right the second time!
Typically service, coding, testing jobs can be offshored. Do you think currently number of jobs accounts for those = millions in USA?
I don’t think any company will be paying additional $100k / per employee for H1B. Current avg. H1B salary is less than that.
But the same time in USA there is a significant gap in talent hence to maintain the delivery and to keep cost under control companies will offshore the projects for sure - and they should. Otherwise we will see significant increase in cost of service which will eventually decrease growth / GDP of USA.
You can’t change world order in a week.. it’s takes time to change policy and seeing its affect.
And if you try to move all manufacturing jobs in USA.. lord save us. Your mobile phone / laptop will cost 4x !! Forget laptop, even your basic needs such as building materials will be so more expensive that it will be out of reach for most of the Americans.
And if you assume well companies can reduce their margin to save American jobs - you knows what’s going to happen - stock market will tank so will your 401k and bond.
You are lucky USA have blocked Chinese auto maker to enter in USA.. otherwise Detroit will be eating grass in next 10yrs.
You won’t just be fighting over the H1B jobs. A crack down on migrants means people will be fighting over lawn care/dog walking / bedroom cleaning etc etc. there’s going to be a wave of low skill jobs that AI can’t fill that need to be done.
