Don’t move there
Learning to pronounce Southwark is a start. And then everyone visiting Southwark is keen to be lectured on the correct pronunciation. Be seen at Tate modern will earn you respect.
Why Southwark specifically? I’m also an expat. Unless you absolutely need to be central for work, I’d recommend looking further out, keeping rail connections for your work in mind. SW London attracts lots of us, but for good reason I think.
I’m also a US expat. Southwark is really central, convenient to get to the city and canary wharf. I’m in SW London which I prefer as it’s a bit more peaceful and more green space
Move to Fulham instead
